Values
In line with our school values, our focus in the library is to empower students to achieve academically, personally and socially.
- Academically – The library provides the study space and tools required to support our students’ academic development, in the form of books, IT, media resources and staff support.
- Personally – The library is a space where students can pursue their own interests and talents. Many of our students enjoy coding, drawing or writing stories and comics. Others have a strong interest in music, sport, history or geography. In the library we encourage students to use the resources to explore, research and practice these interests and to share them with their peers and staff alike. All achievements are recognised and celebrated, and this helps to develop our students’ sense of personal pride.
- Socially – Socialising, in a calm, respectful and appropriate manner is actively encouraged in the library. We have high expectations and a code of conduct for students choosing to use the space. Students are aware of their responsibilities in relation to these expectations and understand that use of the library is a privilege. Under the supervision of our Library Coordinator, an emphasis is put on cultivating mutual respect, kindness, inclusivity and equitable game play. Students ensure they are well presented, calm and seated when socialising in the library and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming; creating a safe space, that is conducive to nurturing the social skills of younger students, or individuals who may struggle to form bonds in the larger playground setting.
