School Meals

School Meals – price increase

The school’s Catering Team strive hard to provide a high quality school meal service which is nutritionally balanced and appealing to our students and staff.  We work with a range of local and national suppliers to help us to do this, constantly challenging them on quality and price. Inevitably prices will increase over time, influenced by such things as supply & demand, seasonal and weather related issues, as well as political influences at this time, particularly surrounding Brexit.

The school has been able to absorb some increases, but we have now reached the stage where these will have to be passed on, in order for us to sustain a viable operation.  Therefore, with effect from Monday 24th April, the following changes will occur on student prices (there will be commensurate adjustments to adult meal prices):

Old price New price
Hot main meal £2.05 £2.25
Paninis No change
Pasta King No change
Sandwiches Range from £1.50 to £2.10 Range from £1.60 to £2.20
Drinks No change
Snacks Various prices Increase of 5p per item

We have carefully considered our options, mindful that price increases will impact on family budgets.  Helping to ensure that students have a nutritionally fulfilling meal at lunchtime is important, so at this time, we would like to draw your attention to the qualifying criteria for free schools meals, which appears as a separate article.

The school uses the ParentPay system for payments in school, which allows a confidential approach between parents and school with regard to receipts and payments for school services, including meals, trips and other items.  When a family qualifies for free school meals, this is marked on our system in such a way that no other student will know about a child’s eligibility through their family circumstances.  Therefore, confidentiality is respected, to prevent this being a barrier to a family wanting to apply when they need to do so.

We welcome feedback about our school meal provision.  If you would like to contact our Catering Manager, please do so via the school reception.  We are about to change some of our menus (information available via the school website) , so that they are more seasonal and include our best sellers, reducing the less popular items, while retaining the variety and balance which is necessary.  Student Voice has been given the opportunity to comment on these changes on behalf of students.

Many thanks for your support to this important service within the school provision.

Free School Meals – eligibility and applying

Families who receive the following are eligible for Free School Meals:

  • Income support
    • Income-based job seeker’s allowance (JSA)
    • Income-related employment and support allowance (ESA)
    • Guarantee element of state pension credit
    • Universal credit
    • Both income-based and contribution-based JSA/ESA if you receive the same amount for both. You should also qualify if you receive both but the Income-based amount is greater, but not if the contribution-based amount is greater
    • Families who are awarded Child Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by HMRC, not in excess of £16,190 are also eligible to claim free school meals providing there is no entitlement to Working Tax Credit (unless in respect of a 4-week ‘run-on’).

The online checking system used in Warwickshire only confirms or denies your eligibility to claim free school meals: it does not give any other information. If you are currently in receipt of either Universal Credit or the 4-week run on of Working Tax Credit the system will not automatically be able to determine your eligibility, therefore you will need to send proof that you are in receipt of these benefits to the Free School Meals office once you have completed and saved your application.

When your eligibility has been confirmed and your application processed, you will be sent an email confirming eligibility. The school will also receive notification of your child’s application.

The online checking system will continuously check your eligibility status and inform you and the school of any changes.

If you would like to check eligibility, please follow the web link below to access the online form:
